Character Creation Themes for Hunters

When choosing their teams the Benefactors will often choose based on a theme. Sometimes the entire Hunt must choose based on such a theme. These are but a few of the themes that are available.
When I run a game I like to let the player group vote, but this list can easily be turned into a random roll list, or they could just be chosen.

Hunter Character Themes

  • Juiced: Only Juicer OCCs (including but not limited to Juicer Uprising variants, EuroJuicers, and Songline Juicers).
  • Psi-che Out: All characters must possess Psi Powers
  • Gandalf Style: All characters must possess Spell Casting abilities
  • Great Responsibility: All characters must be Super Powered
  • Back to Basics: All characters must be ‘Mundane’ (No Psi, Magic, Super Powers, or any other sort of mystical/magical powers)
  • The Splice Must Flow: All characters must be from Splicers (Book, or possibly Rifters)
  • Great House: Same as The Splice Must Flow, only all characters are from the same Great House.
  • Squishy: All characters must be SDC beings.
  • Join the Evolution: All characters much be Mutants (Human or otherwise)
  • Heroes in a Half-Shell: All characters must be Mutant Animals
  • Phenomenal Cosmic Power: All characters must be from Heroes of the Megaverse
  • Supernatural Fest: All characters must be Supernatural or Creatures of Magic
  • Artificial Intelligence: All characters must be ‘Bots of some sort (Robots, Androids, Drones, etc.), with an A.I.
  • Rifts Earth: Aside from the RUE each hunter can use one World Book to make a PC, no 2 hunters can use the same World Book.
  • Live Long, and Prosper: All characters must be an Immortal class or race.
  • Mortal Kombat: All characters must be Martial Artists, meaning Specialty H2H styles, not the generic ‘H2H Martial Arts’.
  • Death from Above: All characters must be Pilots
  • Free For All: No Cosmo-Knights.
  • Dark Anime: Everyone plays a Magical School Girl type character (except a Moderator, who plays Ming).
  • We Can Rebuild Him: All characters must be at least partial conversion, if not full conversion, ‘Borgs of one form or another.
  • Life after Death: Only characters from discontinued systems, or systems that have not received a new book or official Rifter material in the last 5 years.
  • Brains over Brawn: Scholar and Adventurer Classes/Characters only
  • Send in the Clones: All characters are a variation of the same character, all from alternate realities.
  • Carbon Copy: All characters are the same OCC & RCC combo, but individual rolls, etc.
  • Imperfect Copy: All similar OCCs, for example, All Tech OCCs, but includes Operator, Techno-Wizard, and Psi-Tech. If this is chosen a separate discussion will be had on the class in question.
  • No Flagship: Characters from any setting BUT Rifts and its various books.
  • Ethic Nondiversity: All characters must be of the same race/R.C.C. If this is chosen a separate discussion will be had on the race/R.C.C. in question.
  • Color Coded Hats: All characters must be of the same alignment. If this is chosen a separate discussion will be had on the alignment in question.
  • There is… another: Combo of the 2 themes with the most votes other than this theme
  • Mash-Up: Combo of the 3 themes with the most votes other than this theme.
  • Oh the Humanity: All characters must be Normal Humans.
  • Hometown Crew: All characters must be from the same Big City (To be determined after, if this wins) [e.g. All characters are from Chicago, but may not all be from the same world]
  • History in the Making: All characters must be inspired by a historical figure. (This is neither soliciting nor condoning conversions, merely setting a theme).
  • Big Eyes Small… Wait, wrong system: All Characters must be inspired by anime (this is not calling for or endorsing conversion, just setting parameters for character creation).
  • You don’t wanna see my hand where my hip be at: All characters must be inspired by Westerns (or at least fit the Western theme).
  • Army of the Dead: All characters must focus around death or the undead in some manner.
  • Vegetarian: All characters must be Plant based or Plant oriented.
  • Lemmings: All characters must be Mutant Animals, but use the same base animal (all Otters for example). If this is chosen a separate discussion will be had on the animal in question.
  • Outlaws: All characters must ride a Motorcycle (this does not mean the characters automatically get a Motorcycle, this means that a class that grants a motorcycle must be chosen, or at least allows for a motorcycle to be chosen or purchased).
  • Adults Only: All PCs bust be adults, no Teen/Child PCs.
  • Grow Up Quick: All PCs must be Teens or younger, no Adult PCs.
  • Tolkienesque: All characters must be of a classic Fantasy archetype, class, or race.
  • All for One: All characters are the Crew of a single Mecha. (Mecha to be determined only if this option wins the vote.)
  • One for All: All characters are members of a Gestalt Hero/Villain from Powers Unlimited 2
  • Blood Runs Cold: All characters must be reptilian in some manner.
  • Crime and Punishment: All characters must be either Criminal in nature (Thieves, Rogues, City Rats, Black Market, etc.) or of Law Enforcement in nature (Sheriffs, Deputies, Police, MPs, etc.)
  • Modified Men: All characters must be technologically enhanced in some manner. Crazies, Borgs, Juicers, etc. However all mods must be straight tech, no TW Borgs, etc.
  • Fight for Freedom: All characters must be Splugorth Slaves before becoming Hunters.
  • Madness: All characters must be of a class, race, or what have you, that grants Insanities during Character Creation.
  • Two Faced: All characters must have multiple forms (examples include Lycanthropes, Athanatos, APS powers, etc.). Must have at least 2 forms, but more is acceptable. Note: The shape shifting powers of a Changeling, or Dragon, or the super power of the same name, etc. do not count towards this.
  • To the Core: Characters can be made from any setting/system that has a Core Rules book or Main Book. These characters can be made using ONLY the core book(s) of a system or setting. Both the RUE and RMB count as core books. GM Guides and the Book of Magic do not count as core books.
  • Spawn of Night: All characters must be from/of the Nightbane setting, meaning using only Nightbane Books and material.
  • Old and New: All characters must be from the BTS2 setting, with some allowances being made for original BTS material. Meaning only BTS2 books and materials may be used.
  • Bruce & Bond: All characters must be made using Ninjas & Superspies books and materials.
  • The X-League: All characters must be made using the Heroes Unlimited books and materials.
  • The Final Frontier: All characters must be from spacefaring titles or settings. This includes Aliens Unlimitied, Manhunter, Mutants in Orbit, and Phaseworld.
  • Beyond Canon: All characters must be made using Rifter material.
  • It’s Just Your Imagination: All characters must be some form of Nega or Null psychic.
  • Divine Presence: All characters must somehow be related to a pantheon or deity. (Priests, Witches, etc.).
  • To The Extreme!: All characters are made up of two classes. One ‘Powered Class’ Consisting of Psionic Powers, Magical Abilities, Super Powers, etc. (but these classes lose whatever skills go along with them). And One ;Skills Class’ consisting of a non-powered class that provides the skills/education side of the character, including martial arts based characters, and ranging from Vagabond to Rogue Scholar to Paratrooper. All combos must be approved by the Huntmaster (who will also have final say on what constitutes a ‘powered class’ and what constitutes as ‘skilled class’). Note: Some choices of Race/R.C.C. may count as one of the above two options, while others may not, and still others may be exempted if you choose them (example. Demi-God would be exempted, a Pantheons Godling would count as the Powered class, and a Fantasy Elf would not count towards either).
  • Grizzled Veterans: All Characters must be of the Veteran Hunter class.
  • Trick Shot: All Characters must be some form of Archer or Archer class (not just a character with the Archery skill, being an Archer must be core to the concept).
  • Kaiju Invasion: All characters must be of a monstrous/inhuman monster nature.
  • League of Ordinary Gentlemen: character are mortal human beings. OCCs are limited to those with special training and skills only. No superabilties, psionics, or magic allowed.
  • … Is Gold: All characters must pilot a Glitter Boy, or one of its many variants. The class in question must have a Glitter Boy as at least an optional part of starting equipment (the class must come with a Glitter Boy or variant, you wont gt one assigned).
  • From the Block: Each character can only be made from books of a single setting, no multi-setting characters. Nightbane characters can only use the Nightbane Books, Splicers characters using the Splicers book, etc.
  • Dead and Loving It: All characters must be a type or form of undead or animated dead.
  • Survival… is not just for the Living: All characters must be either a type of undead hunter or slayer, or a type or form of undead or animated dead.
  • Of The Round Table: All characters must be a Knight class of some form. Knights, War Knights, Cyber Knights, etc. If this option is selected a separate poll will be held on the inclusion of Cosmo-Knights and Paladins.
  • You Scratch My Back.: Each player creates a character, but then must trade that character to another player to obtain their actual PC for the game. Once trades are approved/finalized no changes can be made. If this option wins it will be combined with the 2nd place theme to obtain the actual creation theme.
  • Luck of the Draw: Each player creates a character to turn in to the Huntmaster, then each character will be randomly assigned (or rolled for) to a player. If this option wins it will be combined with the 2nd place theme to obtain the actual creation theme.
  • Spin the Wheel: Each player creates two characters to the Huntmaster, then a random roll determines which player gets which character. The remaining characters will become an opposing team. If this option wins it will be combined with the 2nd place theme to obtain the actual creation theme.
  • Corruption: All characters must be of a good alignment. The scenario of this hunt will have a decidedly dark feeling with the items being accordingly themed. If this option wins it may be combined with the 2nd place theme to obtain the actual creation theme.
  • Redemption: All characters must be of an evil alignment. The scenario of this hunt will have a decidedly virtuous feeling with the items being accordingly themed. If this option wins it may be combined with the 2nd place theme to obtain the actual creation theme.
  • I AM The Law!: All characters must be of a law-enforcement class of some sort.
  • The Honeymoon: All characters are members of the same wedding party. Individual character status within the party will be decided via group and Huntmaster discussion.
  • Heaven or Hell: All characters must be either divinely or demonically related.
  • Could The Mechanoids Be Right?: All characters must be of a non-humanoid race (humanoid races include centaurs, mer-people, etc. are considered humanoid for this theme).
  • Motley Crew: Each participant randomly rolls dice chosen by the Huntmaster. The result will select another option from the list of themes. Then that character is made using that theme. Each character will have a different theme (unless two happen to roll the same theme). Those who get this theme on their roll will be allowed to choose a theme instead.
  • Company Men: All characters must be from the same in-game pre-established organization. The TGE, NGR, S.H.O.C.K., etc. A second poll will determine which organization (unless a mutual agreement can be reached first).
  • Fate Is A Cruel Mistress: Each participant will have to roll a series of random rolls to determine character type (Race/R.C.C., O.C.C., Power Category, etc.). The ‘Pool’ in all inclusive, every system, every book, every Rifter. The tables for rolls will be released only if this option wins. All rolls will be in front of the Huntmaster.
  • Chaos Theory: Each participant will have to roll a series of random rolls to determine character type (Race/R.C.C., O.C.C., Power Category, etc.). The ‘Pool’ in all inclusive, every system, every book, every Rifter. The, before making the character, the participants will have the opportunity to trade aspects among themselves (Race, Class, etc.). Aspects must be like-for-like. All trades must be approved. The tables for rolls will be released only if this option wins. All rolls will be in front of the Huntmaster.
  • Personally I…: All the characters are… YOU, the player. Stat yourself up, as you are. You are then recruited into a Hunt Training Camp, where you choose a training or augmentation regime (similar to an O.C.C., but not quite), and then enter the Hunt… as you.
  • Animal Farm: Every character has to be a (non-humanoid) intelligent animal/creature/beast (with some exceptions, like Dragons, etc. would not be considered).
  • Arms Length: All characters are are ranged combat specialists (or non-combatants), no melee fighting specialists, classes, or skills.
  • Up Close and Personal: All characters are are melee combat specialists (or non-combatants), no ranged fighting specialists, classes, or skills.
  • Peace Is The Way: All characters must be pacifists or otherwise non-combatants (such as having no Hand to Hand Combat skills). This will restrict some available Classes (like military or soldier O.C.C.s) and Powers (like the major power Natural Combat Ability) which will be further detailed if this option wins/is selected.
  • It Was A Gift: Characters have no innate, imbued, imparted, etc., abilities (this includes super powers, supernatural or magical abilities, super psionic powers, spell casing abilities, etc.). They are normal people in possession of an item, weapon, or object, that provides them with great power. This is usually a unique object, and can be magical, technological, or ‘other’. Note: Object does not actually have to have been a ‘gift’.
  • Welcome to the Big League: All characters are of a gladiatorial class. And while they didn’t know of the Hunt prior to ‘being called up’ the majority view this as the ‘Major League’.
  • Here There Be Giants: All characters are of a gigantic size (no less than 10 ft.) as their natural size.
  • The Lollipop Guild: All characters are of a small (more accurately ‘short’) stature, no more than 4 ft. tall, as their natural size.
  • Walk Tall: All characters must be at least 20 ft. tall, or have the the ability, or equipment, that makes them at least 20 ft, tall.
  • It’s ALIVE: All characters must be from dead/discontinued lines or books (Manhunter, TMNT, Systems Failure).
  • Family Reunion: All characters must belong to the same family (siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.).
  • Grand Trilobites: All characters must be Sea Titans.
  • Get Organized: All Hunters are members of the same organization. The organization will be constructed using one of the many ‘organization’ tables available throughout Palladium. The specific organization (be it a Mercenary Company, Travelling Circus, Super Team, Secret Agency, etc.) will be decided separately. Available character types will be determined by the completed agency. During the Hunt characters will have access to their Organizations resources, however the initial organization ‘level’ will not be determined by the team.
  • It’s So Obvious: All characters must be ‘Hunter’ classes (Bounty Hunters, Hunter/Vigilante, Demon-Witch Hunter, Hunter-Trapper, etc.).
  • Justin’s Team: All characters must be Demi-Gods. (There will be an optional ruleset for non-human Demi-Gods presented to players if this option is chosen).
  • A Dying Breed: Each character must be of a different ‘dying out’ race/R.C.C. that is nearing extinction, limited in number, or otherwise threatened.
  • The ‘Other’ Last Son of Krypton: All characters must be of the same ‘dying out’ race/R.C.C. that is nearing extinction, limited in number, or otherwise threatened.
  • Verboten Theme!: All characters must be (gasp) converted from other systems or works of fiction.
